We are looking for a donor in the state of Arizona who is wanting to give this gift of life to us by means of artificial insemination. We will retain all parental rights and would sign papers removing you from any legal and financial obligations. We do however welcome any contact you feel comfortable with. The only other request would be to provide documents or proceed with testing that indicates you are HIV/STD free. Both of us have strong family values and are confident in providing a financially and emotionally stable environment for this child. Our favorite activities include anything to do with the outdoors. Staying healthy and active is an important part of our lifestyle. Please reply at thebabynest@yahoo.com if you think you'd like to help us out with this dream. This is unfortunate, since I have been a midwifery apprentice and childbirth educator for several years. I want very much to experience pregnancy and birth. I am sure of this. What I am much less sure of is what kind of relationship I want with the child after s/he is born. It is possible that I will want to raise the child as my own (I am a foster mom) or that I would prefer to simply have the experience of pregnancy and leave the child rearing to someone else. I feel like I won't know until after the child is born. I would say I'm currently about 50/50. While I could certainly use an anonymous sperm donor to become pregnant and then place the child the child for adoption if I choose not to parent, I feel that this would not be in the child's best interests. I feel that it would be in the child's best interests to have a biological relationship with at least one parent. Thus, I would like to find a sperm donor who would be willing to take a backstage if I choose to parent the child full time (I would certainly be comfortable with a dad who is in an uncle or co-parenting role, but I would not be comfortable with a dad who wants full custody). However, if I feel like I do not want to parent the child, I would want the man to take full custody of the child, with his partner/spouse adopting the child. In this case, I would relinquish rights and I would take a backstage. I would hope, in this scenario, to have an open adoption, to get pictures every few years and be available to answer ongoing health questions, etc. In either case, I don't think money should change hands. Thus, this could be a way for a couple who is looking for a traditional surrogate to have a "free" surrogate, with the risk that they may not get the child. Alternatively, this may be a good option for a couple who is currently pursuing many possible options for having a child--after the donation, you don't have to have contact with me until 9 months later when I call and say, "the baby is yours" or "I'm keeping him." I am particularly open to gay, lesbian, single, and unmarried families. Because of the confusing dynamics here, I feel that it is very important to carefully clarify all expectations in a written contract prior to conception. I am absolutely serious about this arrangement. I'm not a flaky person, and I understand that having a child is a major commitment. I have thought before about simply being a traditional surrogate, but I simply can't guarantee that I will be comfortable giving a child up, since I have never been pregnant before. I have seen women immediately and strongly bond to children after birth, and I have seen women who feel pretty ambivalent about the child after birth. I've been a foster mom for two years, and I've always felt just fine when the children leave my home because I love knowing that I'm helping to strengthen a family (the family the child is moving to). I expect to feel the same way after the birth of a child, but there is no way to know for sure. I want us to be honest with one another. I want to find a family who is truly comfortable with the ambiguity in this and is willing to support whatever decision I make. We know finding "the perfect" donor is difficult so we tried to sum up the requirements for any sperm donor we come in contact with. The qualities/ requirements we seek are:
This may make us seem picky, but really we aren't. A Native American donor would be awesome, but we know this is nearly impossible. One of us is a card-carrying Native American, and we'd love to carry on the Native blood. If this cannot happen, however, we will not be disappointed. So, even if you aren't a Native American, please still contact us. We just want a healthy, happy baby! Of course, we will pay all expenses (doctor, travel, etc.) Please contact us at shann0n747@aol.com. Very open to a male couple as well as other "non-traditional" families (single, older than average, etc.). I am open to you having the level of involvement that you would like; if long-distance, I prefer primarily email communication. I am intelligent, articulate, quiet and easygoing. I do not smoke, drink or use drugs. I am 41 and my son is 20. I live in Arizona and am willing to deliver in my IP's state or in surrogacy-friendly California if preferred by the IPs (I actually have strong ties to the S.F. Bay Area). I am single and have a small but active support network of friends, co-workers and the surrogacy community. I do have health insurance and disability coverage. I am seeking average compensation for a first-time surrogate (negotiable for the right situation), along with the joy of this experience. skatzcats@msn.com. [Posted on 1 February 2005] |
